Side B is a map of independent record stores. You can browse it without an account. This page describes what the Side B app and sideb.cc collect, why, and who else is involved.
Who we are
Side B is made by sittingonacornflake CommV. Contact: privacy@sideb.cc.
Without an account
The app downloads the list of stores and shows them on a map. Nothing about you is sent to us to do that.
- Location. If you allow location access, the app uses your position on your device to center the map and to show distances to stores. Your location is not sent to Side B and is not stored on our servers. The map itself is drawn by Mapbox, see below.
- On your device. The app keeps your recent searches, the last map area you looked at and your appearance setting in the app's local storage. They stay on your device and are removed when you delete the app.
With an account
You can sign in with Sign in with Apple to save favorites and to suggest stores or corrections. When you sign in we receive:
- your email address as Apple shares it with us — this can be a private relay address if you choose to hide your email;
- your name, if you choose to share it the first time you sign in;
- an account identifier linked to your Apple ID.
While you use your account, we store:
- Favorites — the stores you save;
- Suggestions — new stores and corrections you send, with what you typed into the form.
We use this only to run the app: to show your favorites on your devices and to review your suggestions. We do not sell it, use it for advertising, or share it with anyone beyond the services listed below.
Deleting your account
In the app: Profile → Account → Delete account, then tap Continue with Apple and confirm with Apple; this also disconnects Side B from your Apple account.
This deletes immediately and cannot be undone:
- your account, including your email address and name;
- your favorites.
Suggestions you sent are not deleted. They stay in our moderation queue, with nothing linking them to your account. The same goes for store submissions and photos you sent: they stay, with nothing linking them to your account.
You can also stop Side B from using Sign in with Apple in your iPhone's Settings, under your name → Sign in with Apple. That stops future sign-ins but does not delete the data above — use Delete account for that.
No longer have the app, or had an account on an earlier version of sideb.cc? Email us from the address on the account and we will delete it.
Services we use
- Supabase — our database and sign-in. Store data and account data are stored there, in the EU (Ireland).
- Mapbox — draws the map in the app. Your device requests map tiles from Mapbox, which receives your IP address and the map area being loaded. To provide the map, Mapbox can also process your location and a device identifier. This is not linked to your Side B account, and Mapbox does not use it to track you.
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, and app distribution through the App Store.
- Vercel — hosts sideb.cc and its store pages, and keeps standard server logs.
- Plausible — visitor statistics on the sideb.cc website only, not in the app. Plausible does not use cookies and does not store personal data.
- Resend — sends email on our behalf. We may use it to contact record stores at their public business address about their listing. We do not use it to email app users.
Legal basis
- Your account, favorites and suggestions: to provide the service you ask for (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).
- Website statistics (Plausible) and server logs: our legitimate interest in running and improving the website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- Contacting record stores at their public business address: our legitimate interest in keeping listings accurate (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
How long we keep it
- Account data and favorites: until you delete your account.
- Suggestions, store submissions and photos: they are kept after you delete your account, with nothing linking them to it.
- Server logs: for a limited period as set by Vercel.
